{"id":40999,"date":"2026-04-21T13:49:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T17:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carfms.org\/?p=40999"},"modified":"2026-04-21T14:45:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T18:45:28","slug":"student-essay-and-the-lived-experience-of-displacement-award-contests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carfms.org\/fr\/student-essay-and-the-lived-experience-of-displacement-award-contests\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 CARFMS STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST \/ Concours d\u2019essai \u00e9tudiant 2026 de l\u2019ACERMF"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>le fran\u00e7ais suit<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies (CARFMS) is pleased to share the Call for Submissions for its&nbsp;Student&nbsp;Essay&nbsp;Contest&nbsp;(SEC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This award recognizes the outstanding scholarship produced by&nbsp;students and early-career researchers within the academic field of refugee and forced migration studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The finalists for the SEC contest will be awarded a $500 prize for one winning research paper in each of the three categories (for a total of 3 winners): <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Undergraduate&nbsp;students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Graduate and\/or law&nbsp;students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Early-career researchers (defined as having completed their highest degree no more than three years before the competition deadline)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, each of the winners will receive a certificate signed by&nbsp;CARFMS recognizing their exceptional work and the opportunity to present their paper at a&nbsp;CARFMS&nbsp;conference or virtual event. Submissions may address any issue relevant to refugee and forced migration studies in Canada or elsewhere. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The deadline for the annual competition is May 31, 2026. <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligibility Requirements for the SEC&nbsp;Contest:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Must be enrolled in Canadian university or have graduated within the last three years and must be resident in Canada. Participants must be the sole author of the submitted work. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submission Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Papers must be submitted online:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crs1.apps01.yorku.ca\/machform\/view.php?id=94639\"><strong>CARFMS 2026 Essay Contest Submission \/ ACERMF 2026 Soumission du concours d&rsquo;essais<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Papers may be submitted in either English or French.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Papers must not exceed 7,500 words. Please use 12-point font, double-space, and standard margins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submissions must include an abstract of no more than 150 words, setting out the main arguments or findings of the paper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Papers should follow appropriate referencing conventions (e.g., APA, Chicago).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions that do not meet the basic editorial guidelines will not be reviewed by the assessment committee. Participants are limited entering one or the other&nbsp;contest&nbsp;but not both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The papers will be evaluated through an anonymous review process.
