Visit Winnipeg

Winnipeg is the capital city of Manitoba and located at the geographic centre of Canada and North America, just 100km (62mi) north of the United States border. Long before the arrival of European fur traders and settlers, the site was an important Aboriginal settlement and trading centre. Thanks to successive waves of immigration, Winnipeg today is a diverse multicultural city where over 100 languages are spoken. Winnipeggers pride themselves on being welcoming and friendly.

Getting around

Walking: Winnipeg’s downtown core is not that large, and most of downtown is within reasonable walking distance.

Bus: The Downtown Spirit bus offers free shuttle service on three routes that take you through the downtown core, into the Exchange District, and to The Forks.

Taxi: Rather than trying to wave down an available taxi on the street, your best bet is to call a taxi company directly:

  • Duffy’s Taxi: 204-925-0101
  • Unicity Taxi: 204-925-3133
