Winnipeg is the capital city of Manitoba and located at the geographic centre of Canada and North America, just 100km (62mi) north of the United States border. Long before the arrival of European fur traders and settlers, the site was an important Aboriginal settlement and trading centre. Thanks to successive waves of immigration, Winnipeg today is a diverse multicultural city where over 100 languages are spoken. Winnipeggers pride themselves on being welcoming and friendly.
Weather Although it has a reputation for harsh winters, Winnipeg is usually sunny and pleasant in the spring and summer months. Average temperatures in May range from 19°C (66°F) to 5°C (41°F). Evenings can be considerably cooler than daytime.
