From enforced closure to regulated mobility: The need for a paradigm shift in migration policies
Opening Remarks: Dr. Mohamed Lachemi, Provost and Vice President Academic, Ryerson University
Professor Crépeau will discuss the international regime of mobility and the governance of migration. He will share a number of ideas coming from his experience as United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, especially on the relationship between criminalisation, precariousness and human rights protection.
François Crépeau is the Hans & Tamar Oppenheimer Professor in Public International Law at the Faculty of Law of McGill University. In 2011, he was appointed United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants. Prof. Crépeau is the chair of the Coordination Committee of the United Nations Human Rights Special Procedures. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada since 2012.
