2020 Essay Contest Results

Dear CARFMS Members,

On behalf of the CARFMS 2020 Essay Contest Committee, I am thrilled to announce the results of the essay contest. The essay contest is held each year to recognize the most outstanding scholarship produced by students in Canada, in the field of refugee and forced migration studies.

The winners of the CARFMS 2020 Essay Contest are:

LGBTQ+ Newcomer Resettlement – Insights of a Frontline Worker and Student of Social Work,” Ranjith Kulatilake (Undergraduate category)

Deciding Who to Sponsor in Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program,” Ian Van Haren

 

Fleeing Domestic Violence, Fleeing Transphobia: Examining Intimate Partner Violence Asylum Claims Involving Transgender Claimants,” Shannon Russell

The runners up (Undergraduate category) are:

Palestinian Refugees in Egypt: the forgotten  Refugees,” Rana Kamel-Aly

 

 

Who is protecting LGBTI persons of concern? Examining the factors that explain the low level of implementation of the UNHCR’s AGD policy in the MENA region,” Alec Verch
